Creating an Exotic Dining Experience at Gumgum Garden

Gumgum Garden, designed by Vincent Hsieh of HOAH Design, is a unique restaurant pub that transports diners to a tropical beach paradise in the heart of Taipei. With its exotic plants, aged woods, and real coral sand, this innovative design offers a vacation-like experience for guests.

This one-of-a-kind restaurant design aims to recreate the relaxing atmosphere of an island country beach bar, allowing guests to escape the hustle and bustle of the city and unwind in a serene environment. The space is divided into five distinct zones: the lounge in the sand, the island beach bar, the rock cave dining area, the garden cafe, and the jungle seat box. Each zone offers a different ambiance, ensuring that returning customers can enjoy a unique experience with every visit.

One of the key challenges in creating Gumgum Garden was integrating the design into an existing 30-year-old building. The team had to navigate complex pipe systems and ensure the space met modern fire safety standards. Despite these challenges, the design team successfully transformed the basement of the building into a captivating indoor oasis.

The extensive use of aged woods adds to the authenticity of the space. Weathered, raw wooden blocks were carefully selected and left untouched, while even unwanted tree trunks were repurposed and incorporated into the design. This attention to detail enhances the overall atmosphere and immerses diners in a natural environment.

Gumgum Garden is not only a restaurant but also a versatile venue for commercial events. Its children-friendly and pet-friendly environment has made it a popular destination in Taiwan. The unique indoor setting is perfect for hosting events, collaborating with brands such as Prada, LG, and LINE TV.

The project, which began in September 2020 and concluded in February 2021, was officially opened to the public in March 2021. Located at Basement, No.18, Sec.5, Xinyi Rd., Xinyi Dist., Taipei City, Gumgum Garden has quickly become a must-visit destination for those seeking a tropical escape in the heart of the city.
